However make sure you check out hre known issues e.g.

For a fixed price project , if there is a billing rule for which the contract value is set, then this contract value does not appear on the project estimate
To work around this issue, use On-Account transactions for revenue recognition in Fixed price projects.

Intercompany timesheet journal does not post the cost in the resourcing legal entity
A workaround to this issue is for the cost to be posted in the resourcing legal entity, the cost price should be specified for the worker being shared between legal entities and not on the project category.

Manual cleanup of number sequence clean up active one and you end up having the system trying to reuse it when related project with numbering sequence already exist
This situation does not let the user create projects using the number sequence for Project ID and the work around is to use manual entry for Project ID if this scenario arises.

If you select a specific project on the “Reconciliation – WIP accounts” report, then the amounts that are displayed in the “Ledger” and “Deviation” columns of the report are incorrect
There is no available workaround for this scenario.

Kuwait and Qatar toughen rules for expatriate drivers.

June 24th, 2013

The Qatari government set up a committee to consider imposing restrictions on issuing driving licences to expatrie workers. Acommittee, withmembers from the interior ministry, advisory council, municipal affairs and urban planning ministry and the public works authority (Ashghal), is studying the problem of traffic jams to recommend permanent solutions. It has recommended issuing driver’s licences only to certain categories of foreign workers arriving in the country. The panel passed the recommendations unanimously to be forwarded to the cabinet.

Will the U.A.E. follow suit to reduce congestion and accidents etc. How will this attract tourists and skilled labour to a knowledge economy?

In March 2013 Kuwait introduced similar tough new rules for expatriates applying for a driving license, including a requirement that they be a legal resident for at least two years, according to state-run media.
Expats must now also have a university degree and earn at least KWD400 (US$1,400) per month.
The new conditions are on top of existing requirements including being at least 18 years old, physically well and having past a driving test. However, there are some exceptions, including spouses of Kuwaiti nationals and their children, bidoons who carry valid security cards, college students, wives of expatriates who already have a driving license.

Today an announcement was made by Interior Ministry Assistant Undersecretary Major General Abdulfattah Al Ali, thatKuwait has implemented a freeze on issuing new driving licences for expatriates until further notice,. He said that the only exceptions would be for household drivers on specific visas.

Al Ali is rpeoted to ahve said that the ban would remain in place until changes are made to the current regulations for expatriates to obtain new driving licences. Since Ali’s appointment two months ago, hundreds of expats have been deported for minor traffic violations such as jumping red lights. It is estimated that 12,000 foreigners in total have been ejected from the country over the last two years over driving misdemeanours and KD24m worth of fines issued.

Kuwaiti citizens who commit similar offences face having their cars impounded, although this can only take place if a court order is issued.

313 expatriate teachers had had their contracts terminated after reaching the age of 60. This move has come despite a new law introduced by the Civil Services Commission in April that increase the age of retirement for citizens and locals working in the public sector up to 65. Kuwait earlier this year announced the Gulf state would cut the number of foreigners, who make up about two-thirds of the population, by 1m over ten years.

The country also is implementing segregation in public health services, banning expats from attending public hospitals in the morning unless it is an emergency. Lawmakers also have called for large subsidies for services such as water, electricity and gas to be scrapped for expats, which could push up monthly bills beyond the average salary. It also has approved segregation of expats and nationals seeking medical care, with expats limited to services in the afternoon except during an emergency.

Kuwait was named as one of the world’s least friendly countries towards tourists in a global travel and tourism competitiveness survey by the World Economic Forum released this week. It was ranked 137 out of 140 countries for friendliness.

Banking regulations and compliance and BASEL lll reporting made easy -ask Synergy Software Systems

June 24th, 2013

Banks, companies, auditors all face increasing statutory pressures to report, to comply and to detect fraud, money laundering and data errors.

Often this involves analysis of millions of transactiosn which may be in disparate systems.

BI is the obvious solution but designing a data warehouse and the reports is a daunting task. Let our prebuilt solution take away the pain with a rapid implementation designed specifically for regulatory reporting.

We also offer an advanced tool for company head offices, and external auditors to rapidly analyse financial data with google like search capability to detect fraud and errors. Since 2003 Arbutus Software has provided organizations with simple, flexible solutions to access, develop and analyze data from a wide variety of data types and data sources, including the most complex legacy and mainframe file structures.

Arbutus can be used for a variety of applications of business intelligence, such as connection of computers to mainframes to access legacy data, data migration and consultation, data analysis and fraud detection. CRM 2013 – Orion

June 19th, 2013

Orion, the next major version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM is expected to be released in the second half of 2013. Orion will be the first major platform update for Dynamics since early 2011 and it might be packaged as Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2014.

For On-Premise customers Orion will retrospectively include the earlier updates from the Polaris and Gemini releases including iPad for Sales and the Flow Interface.

We don’t have a detailed list of changes to be expected, but we can already point out some key areas that existing Dynamics CRM customers should pay attention to when starting their upgrade preparations for this major new release.

Orion delivers a new global navigation bar that is present at the top of all the application windows, there will be no place left for the ribbon anymore. Effectively this means that Orion will offer only the new user interface, with no option to go back to the classic forms anymore. It is meant to simplify the UI.

Microsoft may provide an e option to upgrade the existing entity forms to be displayed in the new process form layout, but this may not be the optimal use of the new UI. To best use the process visualization features will require mapping of your current business processes to the new presentation methods and related data structures. So reserve time and resources for updating and testing the Orion forms before rolling out to the end users.

Development

The CRM 2011 API’s are expected to be supported in Orion, which means the code you write today for CRM 2011 should technically be compatible with the next version. However, legacy support for CRM 4.0 API’s will be dropped, so identify and update such components that may not have been touched when your organization wupgraded to CRM 2011 is something to start now in preparation for Orion.

The auto-save feature of the new forms means that you should no longer design your process around the concept of a user submitting the form fields by clicking on the classic save button. Any plug-ins that may be triggered from the repeated save events taking place in the new forms will need examination to avoid performance issues or problems with existing integrations to other systems.

On the UI the different components get rearranged into a widescreen form layout with no ribbon or left navigation.

Similar to the forms upgrade, existing scripts should technically have a supported upgrade path to Orion, but this doesn’t guarantee the overall application will function as expected when the surrounding CRM UI changes.

Once Microsoft makes a beta version of Orion and its SDK available, learning about the scripting-related changes on the new forms will be a top priority for developers, because the current Polaris forms did not contain support for common script-based extensions.

Add-ons

Compared to CRM 2011, the next version of Dynamics CRM will have a significant share of its new functionality delivered as “out of the box add-ons” based on recent acquisitions. Yammer and Skype integrations have been made available to CRM Online customers in the Polaris release, along with the in-house Bing Maps. MarketingPilot and NetBreeze will be key ingredients in the recipe for building the next generation marketing module for Dynamics CRM.

The Orion release is expected to include Exchange Server Synchronisation enabling Outlook clients to be bypassed to synchronise CRM activities and meetings.

A free Windows 8 tablet CRM will be included as part of the Orion update. On-Premise CRM 2011 customers will also have access to the free iPad CRM Sales Experience that was released to Online users earlier this year.

Orion updates will only be available to on-premise CRM 2011 or Version 4 customers that hold active Microsoft Software Assurance.

New Ax releases coming ever faster

June 19th, 2013

At convergence this year Hal Howard, corporate vice president of ERP research and development at Microsoft, walked attendees through AX’s progress over the last three year.

A key comment noted that AX 2012 R2 contained “the same amount of innovation of AX 2009 as a whole,” despite the fact that the former was developed and released within just 15 months.
We want something new for customers every year,” said Howard, “and we’re averaging a new release every nine months right now.”

The solution’s next major release will come in 2014 and is expected to offer a new user interface and an Azure-native option as well as on-premise and private cloud options. Dynamics AX 2014 also promises more smartphone apps.

According to Kees Hertogh, the Dynamics AX team is trying to get to a more regular release cadence for both features and bug fix/maintenance service packs, with features released annually and service packs semi-annually.

SQL Patches pulled and reissued

June 18th, 2013

In April and May, Microsoft released cumulative updates for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2). Those were: •CU #11 for 2008 SP3 (10.00.5840) (KB #2834048)
•CU #12 for 2008 R2 SP1 (10.50.2874) (KB #2828727)
•CU #6 for 2008 R2 SP2 (10.50.4279) (KB #2830140)

Sometime after that, looks like the next day, both downloads were pulled, due to an index corruption issue (if you believe the commentary on the Release Services blog post for CU #6) or due to an issue with w3wp.exe (if you believe the label on the hotfix posted directly to the CU #6 article itself). Or perhaps both. At the very least you may see a regression involving index corruption when you rebuild a clustered index online and the plan involves a non-clustered index. I don’t have a repro handy.

On June 13th, both articles were updated with new versions of the cumulative updates that no longer exhibit this symptom (sound familiar?). So if you download today, you’ll actually get:
•CU #11 for 2008 SP3 (10.00.5841) (KB #2834048)
•CU #12 for 2008 R2 SP1 (10.50.2875) (KB #2828727)
•CU #6 for 2008 R2 SP2 (10.50.4285) (KB #2830140)

Please check @@VERSION. If it reports 10.00.5840, 10.50.2874 or 10.50.4279, please go re-download and re-apply the relevant cumulative update for your branch. If you’re on 2008 R2, read on: These updates are NOT for SQL Server 2008 (or SQL Server 2012). Only apply to systems where SELECT @@VERSION returns 10.50.xxxx, where xxxx is >= 2500. If xxxx < 2500, you need to start thinking about getting off the RTM branch. (based on the number of fixes making it into the SP2 updates, you shouldt consider abandoning SP1, if possible…)

SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update # 13
•KB Article: KB #2855792
•5 fixes listed at time of publication
•Build number is 10.50.2876
•Relevant for @@VERSION 10.50.2500 through 10.50.2875

SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 Cumulative Update # 7 •KB Article: KB #2844090
•11 fixes listed at time of publication
•Build number is 10.50.4286
•Relevant for @@VERSION 10.50.4000 through 10.50.4285
(Also see KB #2792921 for information on new features in the SP2 CU7 release.)

In cases like this, I really, really, really wish they would release a new, out-of-band cumulative update (this is a non-issue, now, for R2, but remains an issue for 2008 SP3 customers for another month or so). How many people go back and take another look at the CU article once they have downloaded, installed, and regression tested? Does everyone regression test a full set of online rebuilds that probably don’t occur that often? I think many users will simply not see this update and are on the verge of experiencing the symptom – there simply isn’t enough visibility when they quietly swap out the versions that the download links yield.

(This post is derived from Aaron Bertrand’s blog posts and i think is important enough to repeat here.)

Malware – be aware its still out there.

June 15th, 2013

What is PC Health Kit?

The Malwarebytes research teamdetermined that PC Health Kit is a fake anti-malware application. These so-called “rogues” use intentional false positives to convince users that their systems have been compromised. Then they try to sell you their software, claiming it will remove these threats. In extreme cases the false threats are actually the very trojans that advertise or even directly install the rogue.

see: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=127755

The ‘Your computer has been locked’ Ransomware is a computer infection that prevents you from accessing your Windows desktop, files, or applications until you pay a $300 ransom to the malware developers. This ransomware pretends to be a lock screen placed on your computer by the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and the FBI that states child pornography was detected on your computer. It then proceeds to state that you will face a $250,000 fine imprisonment from 4 to 30 years unless you pay a fine in the amount of $300. In reality, this is just a computer infection and not a legitimate government message, so you should ignore anything that it requests you to do.

As explained in this great blog article and site, this infection will also check your web browser history to see if you accessed certain sites. If you have, it will include the list of matched web sites in the lock screen to further scare you into thinking that your activities have been monitored. Once again, this is just the infection accessing your browser history and you do not have to be concerned about it.

Microsoft cloud news

June 15th, 2013

For 60 percent of small- and mid-size business respondents in a recent Microsoft study, a key concern was data security, with 45 percent about loss of control over their data. Forty-two percent also doubted the cloud’s reliability.
However, for SMBs that are actually using cloud services, the study found a different picture.
Adrienne Hall, general manager of Trustworthy Computing at Microsoft, said in a statement that “there’s a big gap between perception and reality when it comes to the cloud.” She said SMBs that have adopted cloud services have “found security, privacy and reliability advantages” that were unexpected. Ninety-four percent now have security benefits they didn’t have with on-premises technology, including up-to-date systems, up-to-date antivirus and spam e-mail management . Sixty-two percent experienced increased levels of privacy protection, while 75 percent noted improved service availability.

The study also highlihts cost savings from cloud services, with 70 percent of respondents saying they were “pursuing new opportunities” because of the time saved through cloud-based security management.

However, The study does not explicitly distinguish between public, private or hybrid clouds. For some SMBs, cloud services also could pose an issue for regulatory compliance. On-premise, behind-the-firewall private clouds are considered more secure than public ones, but those require a robust IT department to keep everything up to date.

Businesses that offer employees, partners and customers access to Windows Azure Active Directory (AD) managed apps can now add another layer of security to data that’s stored on Microsoft’s cloud.
Microsoft announced Active Authentication, a new multifactor authentication offering based on the company’s PhoneFactor acquisition

Microsoft is offering two pricing models.
- per-user, per-month plans
- or a per-authentication option that is based on the total number of authentications that are performed each month.

Before Active Authentication is officially made generally available, the company is offering the service at the discounted price $1.00 per user per month or $1.00 for every 10 authentications.

( In May, Twitter rolled out two-factor authentication to improve security follwoing high-profile breaches that compromised the accounts of media organizations, including the Financial Times and BBC, (and Twitter itself). Google offered two-factor authentication for Google Apps way back in 2010).

Windows 8 has some great ideas but trying to create an android beating mobile system and mash up with legacy Windows systems has all the drawbacks you would expect. So InfoWorld a constant crtic of this strategy has come up with its own concept for how to move forward and mocked up what an updated release could look and operate. Take a look – there seems to be a lot of good ideas here..

Management Reporter and Ax 2012 CU6 -Training in Dubai from Synergy Software Systems

June 1st, 2013

• In 6.2 CU6, new menu items will be added to launch Management Reporter from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.
•In 6.0/6.1 CU5 and with the hotfix in AX, 6.2 users will now see a Management Reporter fast tab on the account and account template set up. This will enable them to do the appropriate setup for currency translation in Management Reporter RU6, scheduled in July.

We recommend that customers set this up now so they are ready to go in July for reporting purposes.

Use the following steps to load the Dynamics AX hotfix that adds the menu items:
•If you are on Dynamics AX 2012 R2, follow the steps in KB 2840107 in order to download the prerequisite update to Dynamics AX.
•Apply the update to Dynamics AX.

The hotfix will also be included in Cumulative Update 6 for Dynamics AX 2012 R2.

After the hotfix has been installed, you will have menu items available but they are not yet configured to launch Management Reporter yet.

Do I need to do anything in Management Reporter?
•Management Reporter needs to be updated to Rollup 5 (2.1.1037.12) or later.
•To finish setting up the Dynamics AX menu items, use the Management Reporter Configuration Console to publish the location of the MR server into Dynamics AX using the “publish server connection” action. Once this isdone, the Management Reporter server address and the default company will be supplied by Dynamics AX.
•The Management Reporter client will need to be installed where the Dynamics AX client is installed. This can either be on local machines or on one or more Terminal Servers.

How do I remove the existing Dynamics AX financial statement forms?

The ability to disable existing AX Financial Statement functionality and hide those menu items is done by via a license configuration key. If you are using Management Reporter you can disable this key to hide the existing X++ based financial statements.
1.Click into System within Dynamics AX
2.Under the Setup Area click on Licensing
3.Click on License Configuration
4.Uncheck the option for Financial statement (traditional)
5.Click OK
