Atlas – Dynamics Ax must have add on

May 31st, 2013

In line with the recent Microsoft re-enrollment offer for lapsed customers, we have introduced a limited period buy-back offer for customers with long-term expired maintenance contracts.

This is a one-time only offer: we have not previously made such an offer and have no plans to repeat in the future.

Atlas still retains its value and relevance, for Ax 2012 especially when compared with the poorly-functioning Excel add-in in AX 2012. Ask us for a white paper showing the competitive advantages of Atlas against the Excel add-in. os apart form laodign data for go live, if you regularly update:rices, cost, forecasts, budgets etc then Atlas will make your life easier.

Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail – Synergy’s view

May 30th, 2013

Retail often means both detail and complexity.
Retailers have to reduce inventory investment while they improve in-stock positions, increase customer service while they reduce labor costs, and decrease operation costs while they expand to multiple channels.

Add to these demands the need to consolidate acquisitions, fight off encroaching competition, and do it all in a challenging economic cycle, and it is clear that retail requires advanced business solutions.

Multi store data, mutli company and multi geograpy and multi currency, supply chain that varies from forzen and chilled, to same day make pick and pack fresh produce, to extended lead time imports, advanced warehousing and distribution, e shopping carts and home delivery, and custemer retention and loyalty are just some of the factors that demand both an enterprise solution and specific retail functionality

Microsoft Dynamics AX supports retailers to better manage their operations, processes, and relationships for greater profitability. The Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail solution starts a touchscreen point of sale with a barcode scanner but its much more:

Optimize inventory management and merchandising decisions
Gain insight into product, department, and store performance
Respond immediately to trends in customer purchasing behavior
Improve product pricing management with fact-based decisions

Support multichannel operations
Process orders and returns via any channel
Gather and analyze real-time, multichannel data
Respond quickly to customer demand
Coordinate and track customer interaction across multiple channels

Reduce stock out, shelf life expiry, over stocked discounting, and maxmise available shelf space throughput

M2m and IoT – ‘internet of things’

May 28th, 2013

For some time the hot IT topic was cloud computing. Recently it has been big data. For 2013, The Internet of Things is coming and may use both of those technologies..

Also known as IoT or machine-to-machine (M2M), The Internet of Things is all about sensors that can connect lots of formerly-mundane objects to the Internet and automatically send their data to IT systems for analysis. The objects can be everything from health care monitors to traffic lights to thermostats to trains.

see http://www.zdnet.com/topic-tapping-m2m-the-internet-of-things/

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication can deliver remote monitoring and control in many areas, including buildings, the healthcare system, utility grids, supply chain logistics, the automotive industry, agriculture and more. Companies like Orange and Vodaphone, Nec, Cisco etc have been providing m2m platofrms for some years.

Several M2M applications have gained popularity in rural India including Nano Ganesh, which allows farmers to use mobile phones to remotely monitor and switch on irrigation pumps in remote locations. The app, developed by Ossian Agro Automation (Pune), works in conjunction with Tata Teleservices phones.

There are also apps such as SmartMoo and Silent Observer. Stellapps Technologies, founded in 2011 by a team of IT and telecom professionals, built the SmartMoo automated cow-milking app with the aim to reduce wastage.

Silent Observer, developed by Sukrut Systems, uses sonography machines to track pregnancy tests, thereby reducing illegal female feticide. The company also launched an upgrade of Silent Observer which provides daily updates from sonography machines.

“Silent Observer has been deployed in states like Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, and we are in talks with other state governments too,” Narendra K Saini, CEO of Sukrut Systems, told ZDNet in a phone interview. The company also offers a tool which provides weather information to farmers, and is now working on a water management application targeted at rural India.

Dynamics Ax Performance Improvement

May 25th, 2013

There are many reasons for poor response time e.g.:

Hardware sizing, RAID,
Poorly written queries, views, tables
Caching
Index design
SQl and Ax configuration e.g temporary table size, memory allocation
Lack of SQL maintenance e.g. defragementation, reindexing
Virtualisation set up
Data purging and retention
Frequency of batch tasks, workflows and alerts
Time out settings

There are speiclist permfromanc emonitor and trace tools to identify causes of poor performance. Best practise guidance on system set ups is not always easy to find and may be related to e.g. EP, SSRS, Management reporter, SSAS etc., not just to Ax itself.

We have done several audits on poorly Ax systems to significantly improve performance. We also provide solutions to resolve bandwidth and latency issues over a WAN , and to speed up i/o operations and to reduce latency in virtualised servers.

If your Ax system performance is holding back your business then please call us.

New Microsoft patches

May 18th, 2013

IE8 security bulletin (MS13-038) is one of 10 that Microsoft released Tuesday as part of its “Patch Tuesday” release of bug fixes and security bulletins. Microsoft marked MS13-038 as critical and the company, along with other security firms, are advising those still running IE8 to apply the fix immediately. Using an altered Labor Department Web page, attackers used this vulnerability in an attempt to install malicious code on any visitor’s machine running IE8.

The other critical bulletin, MS13-037, also affects Internet Explorer and it resolves 11 issues that made it easy to inject malicious code into the browser from a specially crafted Web page, allowing the user to take control of a computer. The update covers the PWN2Own vulnerability, unearthed earlier this year.

If you are running Windows Server 2012 then take an immediate look at MS MS13-039. This update fixes a vulnerability in the Microsoft Web IIS (Internet Information Services) that could be used in a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, through the use of an HTTP packet. Because it would be relatively simple to craft an attack using this vulnerability, organizations should apply this update as soon as possible, according to Tripwire.
